Alright here is a post ride
Alright here is a post ride report from the first two rides.
#1 Dem Bones

Well it was a beautiful evening and a whole bunch of folks came out to ride, 50 to be exact. The ride was all about the skin suit or spandex being fun for all onlookers(I was wearing a purple skin suit)...see pics in photo section of the website. The new rerouted start to the trail was on show as it had just been completed. The accolades of the night went to long time local Twodog Tom. A great turn out and even better social with plenty of beer and prizes (sponsored by The Guide's Hut) after at the Pub .
#2
R Trail to Upper Splitting Bear
Last night's weather was marginal at best. The weather held off until the last rider came into the crowds cheers then let loose, we got hammered with rain as the posse was heading home to clean up. Still with suspect weather an amazing crew of thirty were there for one seriously greasy ride. The course was new to the series, making the DHers cry. Kudos goes out to Jimmy and Luke for having the only big bikes on the evening. I think the ride was good fun and challenging for all involved. Thanks to the Fernie Mountain BIke Club and Oasis Spa for sponsoring tonights ride. Jay Bomb was one happy man going home with some new massage oil.
next week the series continues with Verboten ...be there 6:30 ready to ride.

Tonight's Toonie Verboten
Tonight's Toonie Verboten cancelled due to excessive rain....see you next week at R Trail to Oh Deer... schedule continues as listed ....!!!!!
Damn Mother nature
Last night on R Trail / Oh
Last night on R Trail / Oh Deer we had a sweet turnout of over 30 people, even a couple of tourists in the mix. Luke Nelson on the big bike had enough speed (he wasn;t even wearing spandex) to still take the evening and buy a round of cesars and beer for the masses. It was great to see some new faces last night in the crowd.
Honorable mentions go out to Stef, Angie, Nick and Matty for having sweet rides.
NEXT week BROKEBACK RIDGE (from the sign, not powerline)
Theme: Wear PINK PINK PINK PINK PINK PINK PINK and more PINK !
Thanks to RCR for sponsoring the night!
BrokeBack did not disappoint.
BrokeBack did not disappoint. With well over 30 people, the weather held off and invited us to a sloppy, greasy, utopia called BrokeBack Ridge. The trail, which was nothing short of challenging tonight, had some local rippers out to showboat. With a few minor crashes and some major excitement, the ride proved to be a huge success. As the mud cleared, we had a very, very close night on all ends of the spectrum, people where neck and neck. Huge props go out to all the ladies that rode tonight for being up the mountain side first and riding with style going down.
Thanks to all riders tonight, especially the sponsor GIV'ER SHIRT WORKS who produced the most prizes at this point in the season, even some ladies underwear. Again thanks to Giv' Er for supplying panties to the masses.
Next week come out to Black Forest - Old Goats - Mega Hurtz for another sweet ride .!!!!!!!
Tuesday August 11th will be
Tuesday August 11th will be the Verboten make up ride.
Without fail Tuesday evening
Without fail Tuesday evening looked like Armageddon was around the corner, but yet again the ride went down with no precipitation and smiling mountain bikers. This toonie ride had a little over 20 (hardcores that were not scared of a little cloud) folks who dared come out to ride a newly buffed trail.
Mega-Hurtz and Old Goats were only hours fresh from a huge day of trail work by Luke and Henners. The newly revitalized trail had only small touches done to it, a few dangerous sticks removed, a couple of downed trees removed, a few creek crossings adjusted. The results was Mega-Hurtz, and Old Goats having the most flow in it's history, these trails just felt better. Thank those guys when you see them around town.
StraightLine provided everybody with a prize that rode last night, again showing that they give back to the cycling community, by not only storing all the Fernie Mountain Bike Club's tools, being the drop off and pick up for all the club's needs, they strongly support any community cycling event.
Thanks to all those that rode last night, showing that a "liitle" weather lately isn't that bad!
Be sure to come out for the LAST ride of the season, the make-up rain ride VERBOTEN, this coming Tuesday 6:30 at the top of the trail. Also this night will feature a slide show of all the season's pics as seen through Kyle Hamilton's lens. See you then.........
Rain Make up.... last ride
Rain Make up.... last ride Toonie of the season 6.30pm at the top of Verboten! If it is pissing rain (again) we'll just meet at the pub for 7pm do some doorprizes and give out t-shirts and have a beer
Thank You Organizers!
Thanks to everyone that helped make this years toonie race series rock! Michelle and Kurt, all those who helped out with timing and all the sponsors.. you all pull off the best race series in town!
It's over
So it's over, another installment of the Toonie Ride Series.
Even though every Tuesday night it pissed rain or looked like it was going to, the series proved to be the best all time in attendance, with a solid average of over thirty people per ride.
This year was no exception with the cycling community coming together and donating prizes and services to solidify this year's series. A huge thank you must go out to all the bike shops Straightline, Guide's Hut, and Ski Base. RCR sponsered a ride this year, as well as J-Bomb Cycles throwing down some prizes. Also Giv'Er Shirtworks who not only supplied a massive amount of prizes by sponsoring one ride , but also donating his design time to supply a t-shirt at cost for all that volunteered or who rode 5 of 6 rides. Keya White suppiled her graphic design expertise and managed to produce a sweet poster for this years series. The Pub helped us out by throwing down a lot of free beer and nachos every Tuesday. Of course let's not forget the Fernie Mountain Bike Club who sponsored a ride as well paid the cost of the t-shirts Giv'Er procuced. I almost forgot our resident Toonie photographer Kyle Hamilton( http://kylehamiltonphotography.com/ ), who came out taking pics on Tuesday night, then produced a slide show last night. Lastly you should really be thanking Michelle Small, who brought all of these people together to execute the best all time Toonie Series!
Thanks to all that rode and worked together to make this happen. See you in September for a month of Sweet events including the Project 9 All Mountain World Championships, High Roller, and Dirt Diggler DH Fall Classic. See you then.
