Trail update

It’s on.

Hopefully over the May Long weekend you weren’t worrying about all the dandelions that have magically appeared on your front lawn and you were out embracing the warm weather and riding your bike. Over the last few days we’ve seen a dramatic reduction of snow in the alpine; we’ll be able to get those high climbs in sooner than later. The wild life is definitely stirring, be cautious of a cow moose with a calf up in Ridgemont, I saw her twice on the middle of Whats up Doc, including an interesting encounter Friday after work. I also saw a smaller black bear on Anderson Rd.Sunday morning. Saturday night proved to be a clear sky and a beautiful big moon, a little night riding was in order for the cut block, the open area of the cut block makes for some great full moon rides.

I’ve had the privilege to be off work for the last few days and found myself doing a fair share of riding and a little trail work. The current riding is great in Fernie, to my surprise, I rode Cemetery By-Pass, What’s up Doc, Sidewinder, Roots, Roots Extension, HyperVentilation, and Dem Bones was also clear just before the powerlines. If you choose to ride HyperVentilation, just return down the way you came up, trust me there is tons of snow on the descent of Hyper-Extension. A few others and I had the pleasure of hiking in snow up to our knees and in some spots waist deep, for about half the trail. All of the mentioned trails were dry to having the odd wet patch here and there. If you come across a wet patch, please just walk the bike. Rumor has it Stove is impassable so if you are going to ride Dem Bones just ride up the trail. I’m sure the Gnomalizer in Sparwood (the beautifully engineered and stunted trail in Sparwood) is clear after the hot weekend we had, if you feel like getting your stunt on.

At this point (Mon, May 19) that’s all I can tell you, if there is a clear & dry trail that I haven’t mentioned please comment on this post. Happy riding!

Watering Hole

Henry and I cleared watering hole top to bottom today, it is good to go. Still steep and gnarly as usual. Go up there and check it out

getter done

Phat Bastard - Mushroom Head cleared

glad I had my FMBC saw with me as I probably cleared 20 or so deadfalls off of Phat Bastard and Mushroom Head. Its good to go now.

Downtrack to dem bones still has a few snow patches, but can probably be punched thru now that I have broke the first track.

trail work

Kid Stuff is buffed and clear of deadfall , only one minor snowpatch near the beginning, go check it out, if it ever stops raining

Deadfall is nearly 100% good

Deadfall is nearly 100% good to go.. a few snow patches. Broken Derailleur is also good to go.
