Castle Rocks

How to find it

The trail head is right near the top of Hyper Ventilation on your right as you're going up, watch for the sign. From Hyper Ventilation it is a relatively easy spin at a 10% grade till you hit the Castle South ridge. From there head up left on the trail. There are a few mandatory walking spots, but it's pretty rideable. The panoramic view from the top is absolutely breathtaking.

Recently a bench ( materials courtesy of Transwest Mining Systems) was flown up and placed on the summit of the mountain, in the perfect spot to kick back, relax and enjoy the amazing views.

The Trail

Gnomalizer - Sparwood

How to find it

To get to this trail from Fernie, drive towards Sparwood. After passing the dump there will be a slight left hand turn in hwy #3. Turn at the yellow gates on the right and then stay left. Turn right on CBC road. There is a sign for CBC road about 50m from the hwy #3 exit. Follow this to the end of the road, park your vehicle and then bike down down the road you came up for about 50m. You will see the trail on your left. The entrance isn't very obvious since there is tall grass, but the rest of the trail is buff.

If the gate is closed take the road behind the power station by the tembec office. You may need 4x4 to make it up this section.

Hangover

How to find it

Off to the left on the downhill side of the Island Lake road during the steep climb after one of the stream crossings you will find a steep drop in point, a keen eye is needed.I'll see what I can do for a marker next time I'm there.

The trail

Ahh, Hangover. If I remember correctly this trail was created by Mike Brcic and others on a groggy morning after some party.
It's kinda short but you do get the ripper shortcut sections that lead you all the way down to the main road.

Growing Old

How to find it

The trail is accesed from the flat terrain on the main road before Island Lake Lodge.

Once you finish the trail head back up the road and keep your eyes left and on the down hill side you will notice a drop in point into more single track , this is called Hangover. It's rarely used, but it beats riding the road down from Island Lake.

The trail

It's mellow for most, but tricky for beginners, don't bother if you're new or don't like riding behind the seat with the tire burning your arse. Keep going down whatever route you choose, the short cuts through the switchbacks are fast and fun and easy to find, but watch for cars on the main road.
