BP or biking?

smallnocbm.jpeg

So, BP has started its exploration and drilling program for their mist mountain coalbed methane project which spans 500 sq/km of wilderness south and east of Fernie. Their project area covers some trails, access roads and future potential biking areas.

BP is going to FRAC in Fernie. Find out what that means for our people, our water and our wildlife.

Build a Pedestrian Bridge over Fairy Creek - End the Thompson Incest Cult!

IMG_0099.JPG

For anyone who has attempted to cross the Fairy Creek Bridge heading out to ride Swine Flu and the other Procter mountain trails, or to get to Dicken Road and the Chamber of Commerce. You know that it is a death trap. No raised sidewalk, and oncoming traffic coming around a blind corner.

Many residents who live out Dicken Road way, especially those with children, have been writing to government encouraging them to build a pedestrian crossing on the westbound side of this bridge.

This has fallen on deaf ears.

The families have even went as far as building their own makeshift underpass to try to create a safe option for crossing this bridge.

Write to - Kareen.Peters@gov.bc.ca and cityhall@fernie.ca and ask them to build a bridge for pedestrians before someone gets hurt!

Get Some Pork!

Hit up Porky Pine Rim for the third time this year, and it was as epic as ever. What a great ride.

In total, including the drive to the trailhead and a ride down new sidewinder it was about a 5 hour ride. If you rode to the trailhead from town it would probably be at least 8.

Check out the attached Google Earth Shot, and a few more shots should be up soon.... LUKE, IF YOU READ THIS CLICK THE IMAGES TAB AND ADD SOME MORE IMAGES

Thanks to whoever cut out the one deadfall in the MIDDLE of the trail... thats a long way to bring a saw in!

Al-Matador makeover

Last night I went out for my first official trail maintenance night. Dave, Luke and I headed out to the lower section of Al Matador to start the process of re-comissioning the trail. It has pretty much been abandoned since Three Kings has been completed. While still rideable, it needed alot of work to make it a little more friendly.

We put in 4 hours and have cleared the lowest section completely. The upper lower half needs another 4-5 hours of work. How about next Wednesday? Come out and meet us at Fas Gas at 6PM.

Do you know of any trails that could use a good once-over by a work party? Contact the club to learn more about how we can help you lead your own session.
